Meet my Missy! She was a part of our family for 18 years .. and was the leader of the pack!! She definitely had the essence of cats rule and dogs drool down packed.. that's for sure !
We rescued Missy a look time ago. We were living in Throgs Neck at the time and drove to Petco in Yonkers to buy some fish food for the fish in our 55 gallon tank. ( Yes, it's a lot of work !! Not sure what we were thinking with such a big tank but the whole system was a gift from my boss and it seemed like a fun adventure. )
Anyway, we went in and saw cat adoptions from a cat rescue. Missy had twirly whiskers which seemed so goofy looking to me that I wanted to take a closer look.
The rescue group mentioned that she was found near a burned down Chinese restaurant and although young, she was already a mama and saved her kittens which explained her curly whiskers. I picked her up and laid her in arms upside down and she immediately trusted me ... she purred and that was it! I was in love. We agreed to pick her up in her foster home .. which happen to be walking distance from where we lived .. what a coincidence, right? Nope. we were meant to be a family.
At first we were perplexed on choosing a name but then one day she was being a silly girl and I turned to her and said " What are you doing there lil Missy ?" and it stuck. She was a friendly but sassy girl and was definitely the boss as the first rescue she set the stage for who would run the show when it came to the pets. LOL
Missy was a trooper. She was with us through every move into a new apartment and all the other rescue dogs I brought home ( Found homes for them) and of course, in charge of the boys , Lucky and then Wall-e. ( More on them in the next few weeks! )
She kind of was just a chill cat. She would play with Lucky , our Golden Retriever their version of Tag and when Wall-e would get too excited and run back and forth in the hallway-she would give him a lil smack and set him straight! She was just the best.
Would make me crack up every time!! Cracking a smile now as I write this.
Awwee ..... I think about those moments and I miss them but I am so so grateful for the memories. Whatever tough moment that may have been happening , just enjoying how well they all got along and their silly antics made for some bursts of laughter, that's for sure!
If you have never rescued a pet- I highly recommend it. It is one of the most rewarding moments of grace you could give to another living thing. It will require some patience and maybe some routine adjustments at first but the unconditional love, the purrs from a cat and the wag from a dog and the kisses and snuggles make for a more colorful world which will help you heal.. because that is what they are ..... healers.
In an instant they can shift your mood , shift your internal conversation and even shift those tears of hurt into tears of laughter. They don't care about anything else but just being with you becasue you are a rockstar to them.. and that is it!
A mother effin ROCKSTAR!.
So to my Missy girl who is in kitty heaven. I will forever love you and I thank you for sharing your life with us. You have forever woven your kitty paws into the tapestry of our family history. Purr. Purr.
From my grateful heart to yours,
